Green Valley Elks Lodge 2592

Welcome a visit by Elroy T. Elk, Official Anti-drug Mascot of the Elks

Exalted Ruler Jack Najar, welcomes Elroy to the Green Valley Sahuarita area.

On June 5, 2010 the Green Valley Elks Lodge #2592 in conjunction with Green Valley/Sahuarita KGVY Radio station sponsored a “Businesses Helping Teachers” at the Clubhouse at Rancho Sahuarita. Over 300 people braved the hot sun, came out to enjoy the festivities and raised $1,000 for the teachers. Elroy T. Elk (mascot for the Elks Drug Awareness program) showed up for the occasion along with other businesses to help raise funds for our local teachers so that they do not have to use their own out of pocket cash to purchase school supplies for their classrooms.

he hit of the day was the photo opts with Elroy T. Elk with the children who attended. According to Elroy, one little girl would not let go of his leg. Besides being at the Drug Awareness Booth Elroy was all over the place and was a huge hit with the adults too.

The Elks Drug Awareness Program strives to teach all children and parents about the dangers of illegal drug use and prevent the abuse of legalized and prescription drugs.

As the largest volunteer drug awareness program in the United States, the Elks Drug Awareness Program relies on state, district and lodge volunteers to promote a drug-free lifestyle.

By taking pride in America's communities and youth, the Elks Drug Awareness Program takes action against youth drug use through education and inspiration.

The Elks Drug Awareness Program teamed with Marvel Entertainment to produce a comic book featuring Marvel super heroes and Elroy T, Elk in a battle against underage drinking.

Elroy met with many people this beautiful day.

Very special thanks go to:

Cheryl & Jack Ponzo for their work with Drug Awareness and getting everything organized for this event.

ER Jack Najar & his Lady Peggy for making sure that everything would be handled by someone.

Frank & Carol Sturdevant for putting everything together, manning the table, keeping a sense of humor and putting it all down when we were done.

Susan Trecartin and Ted Stewart for making Elroy come to life.  You are both special people who know how to take the heat.

Jim Smith for great photos

To the other Elks (like Ed, Rosanna and the others whose names I forget) who visited with us and helped out when they could.

Thank you!
