Elks Auxiliary High Tea:
“Somewhere in the World It was Time for High Tea” and the lodge room at the Green Valley Elks was packed with the international flavor created by the High Tea Committee: Marcia Salley, Connie McLynn, Carol Greer, Brenda Bloomer, Lorrie Koons, Betty Zoolkoski, Carol Perry and Dee Tomsic. Twelve foreign countries were represented and they were some ‘unique’ takes on international with Brooklyn, the Aloha State of Hawaii, The Hubble Trading Post, the Caribbean, New Orleans and its Mardi Gras atmosphere and last, but certainly not least, ‘Getting our Kicks on Route 66” depicted in beautifully themed tables and decorations. The gals let their imaginations fee and the results were stunning.
Arleen Broyles, Joyce Finklestein and Regina Ford, guest judges had a very difficult time deciding the winners with all the tables’ hostesses declared as ‘winners’. First Prize was won by our local Justice of the Peace, Gail Wight for her incredible depiction of England and an English Tea Party Garden; Second Prize was won by Lorrie Koons and Carol Perry for their colorful, lavish “New Orleans” Mardi-Gras table and Third Prize was taken by Carol Greer and Marilyn Buchsieb for the tropical wonderland of “Aloha, State of Hawaii!
A new component was featured this year, “The Money Hat” created by Lorrie Koons was raffled and the hat with over $100.00 on it was won by Brenda Bloomer, who very graciously donated $50.00 back to the Elks Auxiliary for their community outreach projects. All proceeds for the High Tea are used to sustain and continue the Elks Care, Elks Share commitments to local programs and projects including Continental School District, Valley Assistance, Green Valley/Sahuarita Food Bank, Friends in Deed, Support of Seniors and Veterans and Lodge Projects just to name a few.
