Remembering and Commemorating the Human Spirit
On September 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. The Green Valley Elks Lodge #2592 held a tenth anniversary Patriot Day Memorial in honor of the survivors of September 11th and to remember those who perished in this terrorist attack.
Loretta Potenzieri, Elks Auxiliary President, coordinated this memorial in behalf of her husband an Elk, Mario Potenzieri, who was an injured survivor of 9/11. Since Mario was in New York City with other survivors, Loretta read his narrative of what happened to him.
This event was open to the public with over 200 people attending.
The Green Valley SAV Color Guard consisting of Gary Anderson, George Grove (SAV President), Larry Labbe and Mike Figliola presented the colors.
The Wreath Ceremony was presented by Simon Davis, Fire Chief of the Green Valley Fire Department and Lt. Deanna Coultis of the Pima County Sheriff Department.
Carol Collins from Valor Hospice Care explained the purpose of the program and Rev. Jack Capen led the invocation and benediction.
There were three other speakers, Allyson Pooley, Michael McGinley and June Shanahan.
Mary Lee Taylor and Tom Saville provided the music.
Refreshments after the ceremony was provided by the Elks Auxiliary and enjoyed by all..
